Creative writing contest set for adults and children
The Faculty Writing Group of Ivy Tech is holding a writing contest to benefit TRIAAC (Three Rivers Institute of Afrikan Art & Culture).
Adult and child entrants are welcome to submit works in one of the following genres: fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, graphic works/comics, and horror/fantasy short fiction. Child entries should be either fiction or poetry and child writers should indicate their grade level on the entry form.
The guidelines for the contest are as follows:
- Length—fiction, creative nonfiction, horror/fantasy: 2500 words, or ten pages; poetry: maximum of three poems, not to exceed four pages; graphic works/comics: up to six pages with panels and/or illustrations; children’s entries should be five pages or less.
- Works must have titles that appear on the first page (do not put names on entries)
- Writers must include a cover page with the names of all works submitted and the writer’s name, address, phone and email address if applicable
- Each work must have page numbers
- Prose and poetic works must be typed in black ink, on standard printer paper—on one side of the page
- Entry fees should be paid by check or money order, and made payable to: TRIAAC (The fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children)
- Entries without fees are ineligible

Workshops set for TRIAAC Creative Writing Contest
To help would-be participants prepare for the writing contest to benefit TRIAAC, the members of the Ivy Tech Faculty Writing Group will hold a series of two-hour writing workshops on Saturday, February 16, 2013.
The last day to register for workshops is Friday, Feb.1, 2013.
Workshops will be offered in fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and horror/fantasy. The workshops will be taught by experienced writing instructors who are also published writers. Workshops will consist of explaining each genre’s conventions, discussion, and writing time. Paper and pencils will be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops, notebook paper, and related equipment so that they might capture the ideas generated in workshop. The cost for the workshops is $25 each and includes lunch. If participants choose to bring their own lunch, the price is the same.
The workshops will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at Faith United Methodist Church, 207 E. Dewald Street., Fort Wayne, IN 46803 in the lower level.
*Please note that workshop participation IS NOT required for entering the contest
