Ivy Tech Fac­ulty Writ­ers fundraise for TRIAAC

Cre­ative writ­ing con­test set for adults and children

The Fac­ulty Writ­ing Group of Ivy Tech is hold­ing a writ­ing con­test to ben­e­fit TRIAAC (Three Rivers Insti­tute of Afrikan Art & Cul­ture). Writers Contest 300x231 Ivy Tech Writers fundraise for TRIAACAdult and child entrants are wel­come to sub­mit works in one of the fol­low­ing gen­res: fic­tion, cre­ative non­fic­tion, poetry, graphic works/comics, and horror/fantasy short fic­tion. Child entries should be either fic­tion or poetry and child writ­ers should indi­cate their grade level on the entry form.

The guide­lines for the con­test are as follows:

  • Length—fiction, cre­ative non­fic­tion, horror/fantasy: 2500 words, or ten pages; poetry: max­i­mum of three poems, not to exceed four pages; graphic works/comics: up to six pages with pan­els and/or illus­tra­tions; children’s entries should be five pages or less.
  • Works must have titles that appear on the first page (do not put names on entries)
  • Writ­ers must include a cover page with the names of all works sub­mit­ted and the writer’s name, address, phone and email address if applicable
  • Each work must have page numbers
  • Prose and poetic works must be typed in black ink, on stan­dard printer paper—on one side of the page
  • Entry fees should be paid by check or money order, and made payable to: TRIAAC (The fee is $10 for adults and $5 for children)
  • Entries with­out fees are ineligible

Work­shops set for TRIAAC Cre­ative Writ­ing Contest

 

Writers Contest 300x231 Ivy Tech Writers fundraise for TRIAACTo help would-be par­tic­i­pants pre­pare for the writ­ing con­test to ben­e­fit TRIAAC, the mem­bers of the Ivy Tech Fac­ulty Writ­ing Group will hold a series of two-hour writ­ing work­shops on Sat­ur­day, Feb­ru­ary 16, 2013.

The last day to reg­is­ter for work­shops is Fri­day, Feb.1, 2013.

Work­shops will be offered in fic­tion, cre­ative non­fic­tion, poetry, and horror/fantasy. The work­shops will be taught by expe­ri­enced writ­ing instruc­tors who are also pub­lished writ­ers. Work­shops will con­sist of explain­ing each genre’s con­ven­tions, dis­cus­sion, and writ­ing time. Paper and pen­cils will be pro­vided, but par­tic­i­pants are encour­aged to bring their own lap­tops, note­book paper, and related equip­ment so that they might cap­ture the ideas gen­er­ated in work­shop. The cost for the work­shops is $25 each and includes lunch. If par­tic­i­pants choose to bring their own lunch, the price is the same.

The work­shops will be held Sat­ur­day, Feb­ru­ary 16, 2013 at Faith United Methodist Church, 207 E. Dewald Street., Fort Wayne, IN 46803 in the lower level.

By sub­mit­ting work to the Writ­ing Con­test to Ben­e­fit TRIAAC, I affirm that the work sub­mit­ted is com­pletely orig­i­nal and I hold all rights. Fur­ther, I agree that the judges of the con­test as appointed by the mem­bers of the Fac­ulty Writ­ing Group at Ivy Tech have the final deci­sion regard­ing win­ning entries and agree to abide by such deci­sions. I fur­ther agree to accept any prize awarded to me, in the event that I win, and under­stand that there are no sub­sti­tute prizes. In addi­tion, at the con­clu­sion of the con­test, I under­stand that I may sub­mit the work entered for this con­test to other con­tests or pub­li­ca­tions for fur­ther con­sid­er­a­tion. I also agree that no fur­ther monies, ser­vices, or goods  (bar­ring any prize that might have been won) are due to me as a result of my par­tic­i­pa­tion in this con­test.
