Mid-week drumming resumes

Posted by admin in Past Posts

Drumming for adults starts January 9th

TRIAAC’s Wednesday Night Drumming workshop is set to begin its first 7-week cycle of 2013 on January 9th. The adult drumming WND Mid week drumming resumesforum is designed for  students who want to experience the power of traditional jenbé and dunun drumming with their peers, in a safe learning environment. The series of 7-week workshops is geared to beginning and intermediate students, with 90-minute classes that emphasize learning the proper technique to produce the correct sound for both the jenbé and dunun drums. Students will also receive historical and contemporary perspectives on the Mandé cultures from which the music derives. With its homeland in Guinea and Mali, the jenbé and dunun are the traditional instruments of the Mandé drum ensemble, which that take varying formulations throughout the Mande Diaspora in West Afrika, depending on the ethnic group.

Special classes for both instruments can be arranged for advanced students. For more information about Wednesday Night Drumming, please call TRIAAC at 260 969‑9442, or email triaacadmin@comcast.net.
